Wall Street is being “Warned” against the commodification of water?
IT’S  TOO LATE! AND TOO NICE.  The water futures market was set up a year ago.

Last year’s news about the (U.S.) Mercantile Bank’s WATER FUTURES MARKET is in the posting:

2021-02-14 The New Canada Water Agency

https://sandrafinley.ca/blog/?p=25298

4.  IMPORTANT   Just before Christmas, the CME Group, the New York-based market operator that takes its name from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, began trading water futures. For the first time, Wall Street traders are now able to take a stake in the future value of water, the way they have with other agricultural and mineral commodities. So far, the water contracts being bought and sold are limited to five water districts in drought-prone California, representing a tiny fraction of the water actually used in the state. But the idea of water as something to be bought and sold by Wall Street speculators does not necessarily sit well with those who study the economics of this resource in Canada. “I find it quite disturbing,” said Jim Warren, Regina-based scholar and author of Defying Palliser: Stories of Resilience from the Driest Region of the Canadian Prairies. “I mean it’s upsetting, especially since, you know, the world will be watching and others will be thinking it’s the way to go.” Read more analysis of water trading:  http://newsletters.cbc.ca/c/1F7Ks4WF0FDfJgom1noffLIuG

30+ Groups to Wall Street: Water Is Not a Commodity

More than 130 civil society groups this week demanded federal regulators shut down the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s water futures market, warning Wall Street against commodifying what has been treated since ancient history as “a common right for everyone.”

Warning Wall Street against commodifying what has been treated since ancient history as “a common right for everyone,” more than 130 civil society groups this week demanded that federal regulators shut down the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s water futures market.

Food & Water Watch organized the petition, which was sent to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), a year after the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) opened the world’s first market for water futures contracts, based on water rights in drought-plagued California.

“Water index futures trades are contrary to the public interest as they involve the trade of an essential resource,” wrote the groups, which also included Public Citizen, For Love of Water (FLOW), the Center for Biological Diversity, and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP).

The organizations argued that the CME’s water futures market — which the exchange self-certified before its launch, assuring the CFTC that it met the requirements of the commission’s regulations — undermines California state law and violates the CFTC’s own trading restrictions.

“Water is necessary and essential for life and is simply not a commodity,” said Zach Corrigan, senior attorney for Food & Water Watch. “The commission should reject this shoe-horn attempt to drive investor profit under a federal law never meant to apply to a common public resource managed by the state for the public welfare.”

In the water futures market, called the Nasdaq Veles California Water Index Futures, market participants are able to bet on the scarcity of water in California, where 37.3 million people are currently affected by drought conditions and where 2021 was the driest year in more than a century.

Since the market opened in December 2020, participants have been able to bet on the state’s $1.1 billion spot water market, claiming quarterly contracts and placing bets on the price of 10 acre-feet of water.

As the United Nations Office of the Hugh Commissioner on Human Rights explained when the market was launched:

“The new water futures contract allows buyers and sellers to barter a fixed price for the delivery of a fixed quantity of water at a future date … As well as farmers, factories and utility companies looking to lock in prices, such a futures market could also lure speculators such as hedge funds and banks to bet on prices, repeating the speculative bubble of the food market in 2008.”

The water futures market was permitted to launch thanks to the “radically deregulatory Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000,” said Dr. Steve Suppan, senior policy analyst at IATP, which “allows exchanges to self-certify that new futures contracts comply with CFTC rules and core regulatory principles.”

Since the CME’s water futures market is “a new asset class,” Suppan said, the CFTC “must not allow self-certification.”

According to the petition, “self-certification has meant that neither the commission nor its staff have in fact evaluated whether the futures contracts are susceptible to market manipulation.”

The CFTC strictly prohibits the trade of futures that are “readily susceptible to manipulation of the price of such contract,” noted the signatories.

The groups also objected to the fact that futures contracts can be “freely traded on CME’s market, thus allowing investors to profit” — a violation of California’s “beneficial use” legal doctrine.

Under state law, water entitlements cannot “be used solely for speculation, such as ‘to store water for monopoly.’”

“Insofar as the trading in futures may lead to excess speculation and thus hoarding of the various entitlements that are [or] can be exchanged under state law, as demonstrated below, the futures market will aid and abet violations of state law — an outcome the commission should not permit,” the groups wrote in the petition.

Liz Kirkwood, executive director of FLOW, said the CME’s commodification of water violates a “fundamental human right held in trust by the states for the public,” adding that water is “not something to be speculated on by profiteers.”

“Free market advocates claim that markets create efficiency, but the outcome is usually dystopian and horrifying,” said John Aspray, an organizer with Food & Water Watch.

“In this time of global-warming-induced drought in California, the last thing we need is to gamble on our precious water resources,” said Conner Everts, executive director of the Southern California Watershed Alliance, which also signed the letter.

A QUICK HAND-OUT:

re Bryam Bridle on immunity of 5 to 11 year olds

Maybe you’ve seen this video of Dr. Bryam Bridle.  It is compelling.

You are free to use the info from it (below), for example, in conversation with your local Medical Health Officer.

How might I best distill what I have to say?   . . .  ah!  take ONE minute

If you will scroll to near the end of Bryam Bridle’s video presentation “On the Science” (https://sandrafinley.ca/blog/?p=26326  – –  less than half an inch from the end) – – –

you will find the statistics for Ontario:  there are approximately a million kids in the cohort that starts with 5-year-olds (5 to 11 year-olds).  The vaccines, experimental, are rolling out for them.

The data for Ontario for this cohort, reading from the official stats:  in 22 months one child has died from covid.  That child was immune-compromised (had a co-morbidity).  Bridle confirms what I have read repeatedly:  kids are not at risk from covid-19.

There are definitely harms experienced from the covid vaccinations by some people (many in number).

Natural immunity is superior protection to inoculation.

Why in God’s name would you round up all the kids and vaccinate them?   One in a million, and that child with a co-morbidity?!

IF YOU DO NOT OBJECT  based on the science,  or for humanitarian reasons to protect the kids,  how about from an economic point-of-view?

What is the cost of vaccinating 1,000,000 kids? In one province alone.

Why should Canadians pay to vaccinate a million kids who are not at risk?

If you are the curious type, you might ask – – how much are we paying for the vaccine (not counting the associated costs of rolling it out).  What is the cost of production, HOW much money are they making?  Is it more, or is it less, than they themselves projected they would make?  (in the billions of dollars.)

I hope Bryam Bridle opens the eyes of a sufficient number of parents in Ontario to stop what is corrupted governance and regulatory systems.

You can’t expect the Ontario parents to fight the fight for the rest of the country.  They have a big enough battle just in Ontario.

Such a world we live in,    Take care,       Sandra

= = = = = = = =

NOTE:  the brief commentary (below) on the video did not address my central concern:  WHY are 5 to 11 year-olds being vaccinated?  It makes no sense (except to those who are making the money).

Folks are lined up around the block to get their rapid tests in time for Christmas.  So maybe its time to ask some questions. Are they being promoted and used the way they should be? Or is it another expensive and useless program that has you testing yourself at a time when you don’t have the plague anyways? Dr. Bridle explains

It’s not that they can’t detect the disease, they can. It’s just that the Central Scrutinizers only want you to use the tests when you’re not sick.

Some links to what the good doctor is talking about. Public Health Ontario and Shoppers Drug Mart

After talking about the rapid tests Dr. Bridle goes over PCR tests and mask wearing. Interesting thing about the masks, they put hair dressers at far more risk than if they weren’t worn at all.

Dr. Richard Stanwick,

I think you have not been told the following, but most everyone in my networks has been told, or will soon know:

(1)   2021-12-14   BC Restaurant wins court case. Open to everyone, no vaccine passport needed.

(2)   The protest in Victoria on Dec 9th;  3,000 people.

A convoy of vehicles from up-island started in Campbell R, joined with others in Courtenay, towns along the way, down the way to Nanaimo . . . Victoria, big posters on their vehicles.  One theme was: stay away from our kids.  (They are well-informed people.  It is hubristic to think otherwise, IMHO!)

An estimated 3,000 were in attendance in Victoria.

You can’t be expected to know about it:  the lack of reporting is stunning.  But almost irrelevant because people are reporting to each other.

I try to “get it right”:  I’ve been doing this work for 20 years (all my life, actually).  I can’t afford to lose my credibility.  The people I work with through networks are competent, discerning, well-informed, and thoroughly dedicated to the public good.

(3)   Maybe you do not know, but most people in the networks know:  ivermectin has been used for at least 5 decades with very beneficial results.  It’s sin?  Ivermectin IS OFF-PATENT a long time ago.  There are many generic production centres around the world.  You know what that means.

Ivermectin was thoroughly propagandized and gotten rid of in western democracies in particular – – because Anthony Fauci and his cronies are intent on making billions of dollars on their vaccines and drugs (patented, of course).  They’ve done no end of harm.  I am grateful that the truth is getting out.

(4)    In case you are unfamiliar with HOW the information is getting out, just one example, recent (from my blog):

BRIEF BACKGROUND

A group of scientists and doctors sued the FDA over the Pfizer covid vaccine.

The plaintiffs are Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency.

A part of the lawsuit is a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) on the FDA

for documents from Pfizer

that the FDA used to license the vaccine (e.g. test results).

(Aside:  the equivalent in Canada to a FOIA is an ATI, Access to Information)

The Plaintiffs are making the Pfizer documents they receive available through their website.

Canadian Dr. Nagase has analyzed Pfizer pages posted by the Plaintiffs.  He explains them to Western Standard reporter Melanie Risdon.

The word “shocking” is appropriate.

From the posting

There has been a legal battle over the FOIA to get to this point.  Aaron Siri (lawyer representing the plaintiffs) called it

dystopian for the government to give Pfizer billions, mandate Americans to take its product, prohibit Americans from suing for harms, but yet refuse to let Americans see the data underlying its licensure.”

(5)  And the court cases underway in Canada:  how many of them are you aware of?  All that stuff that comes down to us from the Doctors’ trials, a subset of the Nuremberg Trials?  You will be able to find information if you aren’t up-to-speed.

(6)  The call for a Constitutional Reference?

I would welcome a conversation with you.

You may have questions – – there’s probably more of which you are unaware?   – –

(7)   The Pandemic Papers” is a new publication, excellent.  “First Edition December 9, 2021 on the 75th Anniversary of the Nuremberg Doctors’ Trial (December 9, 1946)”.

From outside North America, recent:

(8)  2021-12-13 Japan’s health ministry officially WARNS of myocarditis heart inflammation as a side-effect of Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines  (as compared to Canada . . .)

https://sandrafinley.ca/blog/?p=26277

The relationship to myocarditis and related heart afflictions has, of course, been known for a long time now.  The “as compared to Canada” bit only adds to the dilemma:

When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law.”

I was heartened by the legal decision on the Restaurant case.

I was heartened by the judge’s decision re the Fairy Creek Old Growth injunction.

There will be more than 2 enlightened judges in Canada!  Which reminds me:

Jeff Rath, an Alberta lawyer who is representing a group of Alberta doctors, plaintiffs in a case against the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons over forced inoculation, has an exceptional amount of experience in successful argument of cases in the Supreme Court of Canada.  He isn’t the only constitutional lawyer with a case on its way to the Supreme Court.

Brian Peckford,  one-time Premier of Newfoundland-Labrador, as you may know, is the main voice teaching the Canadian tool of a Constitutional Reference to short-circuit lengthy court proceedings in divisive matters.

I am thinking that a difficult area for you will be the common sense question (among others):  why would anyone confine people with a contagious case of covid in a long term care facility with people who do NOT have the disease?

Equally problematic will be, if the Courts do their job:  I don’t think you have authority to do what you are doing.   A “Section 1 Over-ride” which is what you are relying on, properly pursued (and there’s enough on the line to help ensure that it is properly pursued) requires that the criteria set out in the Oakes Test for an override of Constitutional Rights be argued in a Court of Law.

The Court will or will not grant the Over-ride based on the argument presented.  The Oakes Test is brief and easy to understand;  I mean, do YOU think you can satisfy the criteria?

I am happy to answer questions, if I can.

I offer because I have friends who are being severely and wrongly impacted by what you are doing.

Maybe it doesn’t have to be?

But maybe you will not want to speak with me?

Best wishes,  (Sandra)

by Jack Phillips, Epoch Times

More and more businesses in recent days have walked back previous rules mandating COVID-19 vaccine sas a condition for employment in a bid to keep workers.

Earlier this week, Amtrak—a quasi-public corporation—became the latest to rescind its vaccine requirement amid concerns about staff shortages and cut service in January. In a memo sent to staff that was obtained by The Epoch Times, Amtrak CEO William Flynn said the company would do away with the mandate that would have given employees until Jan. 4 to get fully vaccinated or go on unpaid leave.

About 500 out of more than 17,000 Amtrak workers remain unvaccinated, according to the memo. Still, the sudden loss of that many workers would have caused service disruptions, Flynn suggested, while noting that Amtrak was acting in accordance with recent court orders handed down against President Joe Biden’s sweeping vaccine mandates.

Several hospitals and healthcare systems have similarly rescinded vaccine mandates for employees and cited labor issues that were triggered by the new requirements. In early December, Florida’s AdventHealth announced the end of its vaccine requirement for some 83,000 workers, also citing the several recent court injunctions against federal mandates.

“Due to recent decisions by the federal courts to block the [Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services] vaccine mandate, we are suspending all vaccination requirements of our COVID-19 vaccination policy,” AdventHealth Chief Clinical Officer Neil Finkler said in a letter to staff. The move came after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services confirmed to The Epoch Times that the agency suspended enforcement following two court orders several weeks ago.

Tenet Healthcare, HCA Healthcare, and Cleveland Clinic recently announced they are pulling back as well, citing labor concerns. Along with AdventHealth, the three healthcare companies operate a combined 300 hospitals and have more than 500,000 workers.

They cited recent court orders that blocked Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services from enforcing its mandate on Medicare- and Medicaid-funded medical facilities. The rule was announced by Biden on the same day that he confirmed that he would impose mandates on federal government employees, businesses who have contracts with the federal government, and, most controversially, businesses that have 100 or more workers.

The mandate for private businesses, slated to be enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), was paused by the agency last month following a scathing ruling that was issued by a panel of judges on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. At the time, OSHA said it remained confident that the federal government would ultimately prevail in court.

“We have seen some anecdotal reports of hospitals that have paused or rolled back their vaccine mandates in light of the legal process that is currently playing out,” the American Hospital Association said in a statement to The Washington Post about the recent hospital decisions on vaccine requirements.

But the organization said that it does “not think most hospitals are changing their mandates, but some may be choosing to mandate weekly testing or other mitigating strategies for unvaccinated workers instead,” while “some have also decided to no longer terminate unvaccinated staff.”

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Unified School District board, for different reasons, voted overwhelmingly in favor of postponing its student vaccine requirement from January 2022 until the fall of 2022 after tens of thousands of students reportedly would not comply—meaning that they would not be able to attend in-person classes.

Huntington Ingalls Industries, the largest naval shipbuilder in the United States, announced it won’t enforce the Biden administration’s federal contractor mandate. The company had told its 44,000 workers that it was not contractually obligated to comply, although a federal judge in Georgia later blocked the mandate.

The University of Iowa also recently pulled its vaccine directive for staff working on federal contracts from its website following a federal judge’s order last month. University of Iowa Faculty Senate President Teresa Marshall said on Dec. 7 that the requirement was placed on hold until federal lawsuits get sorted out.

Boeing Has Suspended Its Vaccine Mandate – Here Are The Details

by Bruce Hoenshell,

With the deadline for all of Boeing’s U.S. employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 having already passed, the company said Friday that it has suspended its vaccination requirement.

In a statement to KIRO Newsradio, a Boeing spokesperson said the company does continue to encourage employees to get vaccinated and get a booster if they have not done so already.

Boeing says the decision to suspend the vaccination requirement comes after a federal court’s decision “prohibiting enforcement of the federal contractor executive order and a number of state laws.”

The full statement from the spokesperson is below:

“Boeing is committed to maintaining a safe working environment for our employees, and advancing the health and safety of our global workforce. As such, we continue to encourage our employees to get vaccinated and get a booster if they have not done so. Meanwhile, after careful review, Boeing has suspended its vaccination requirement in line with a federal court’s decision prohibiting enforcement of the federal contractor executive order and a number of state laws. As we have throughout the pandemic, we will continue to monitor and follow federal, state and local requirements.”

In October, Boeing had set the deadline of Dec. 8, 2021, as the day all employees in the United States must be fully vaccinated by or get an approved exemption they later extended it to Jan. 4 to match the federal mandate.

As we previously reported back in November Some 11,000 employees of the Boeing Co. — about 9% of the U.S. workforce — have sought religious or medical exemptions to a company and federal requirement that workers be vaccinated.

The number of exemptions sought was many times higher than executives expected. The requests have the company “scrambling for a strategy that keeps employees safe and complies with President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for federal contractors, but avoids an exodus of engineering and factory labor,” the news report said.

On Oct. 15, three days after the company issued the vaccine mandate, more than 1000 people protested near the IAM District 751 union hall in Everett. People lined both sides of Airport Road, some carrying signs that had messages supporting “medical freedom.”

(LifeSiteNews) — Facing serious staffing shortages, some of the largest and most prominent hospital systems in the United States, including HCA Healthcare Inc., Tenet Healthcare Corp., AdventHealth, and Cleveland Clinic have been forced to backpedal on their COVID-19 jab mandates in hopes of retaining crucial employees, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday

Townhall reported that University Hospitals in the Cleveland, Ohio area also recently announced the reversal of its jab mandate for hospital workers.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the major hospital systems have been forced to reevaluate their coercive COVID-19 jab policies after needed healthcare industry employees, especially nurses, chose to quit rather than get the experimental injections.

“Vaccine mandates have been a factor constraining the supply of healthcare workers, according to hospital executives, public-health authorities and nursing groups,” the report noted, adding that “thousands of nurses have left the industry or lost their jobs rather than get vaccinated” for COVID-19.

The Journal cited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in reporting that as of September, unvaccinated employees accounted for a massive 30% of workers employed by over 2,000 U.S. hospitals.

Many people, including healthcare professionals, have been skeptical of the push toward mass immunization. The CDC reports an infection survival rate of greater than 99.95% for those under age 50. Meanwhile, the list of FDA-recognized adverse events has grown from severe anaphylactic reactions to include fatal thrombotic events, the inflammatory heart condition myocarditis, and neurologically disabling disease like Guillain Barré Syndrome, as well as thousands of recorded deaths and permanent disabilities.

The staggering percentage of healthcare workers who have refused to comply with the jab requirements imposed by their hospital systems — many of whom are vitally necessary nursing personnel — could have a crippling effect on America’s hospitals if the establishments move to fire all noncompliant workers.

Recognizing this dilemma, an employee-benefits lawyer has suggested that hospitals that don’t mandate the jabs could see an influx of interested applicants fleeing hospitals with more coercive policies.

“It’s been a mass exodus, and a lot of people in the healthcare industry are willing to go and shop around,” Wade Symons, head of the consulting firm Mercer’s U.S. regulatory practice, told the Journal.

News of the major hospital systems dropping their injection mandates comes after a federal judge in Louisiana blocked the Biden administration’s top-down federal COVID-19 jab mandate for healthcare workers that would have impacted at least 10 million Americans.

The judge’s late-November decision was in response to President Joe Biden’s September 9 announcement of a series of vaccine mandates for public and private sectors, including one with no testing option for millions of healthcare workers employed by medical facilities that receive Medicare and Medicaid funding.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has subsequently announced it will temporarily halt enforcement of its healthcare worker mandate pending appeal of a federal injunction blocking the measure.

“I don’t think the mandates were helpful and I think the court in Louisiana did everyone a service,” Alan Levine, chief executive officer of Ballad Health, told The Journal.

Levine, who told the newspaper his company employs about 14,000 people, of whom roughly 2,000 have opted not to get the shot, said firing “[t]hat many people … would have been devastating to our system.”

Before the Louisiana judge blocked the mandate, at least 22 states had joined a duo of joint lawsuits against the Biden administration over the rule.

States, companies, and private individuals have filed a raft of lawsuits taking issue not only with the mandate for healthcare workers but also the mandate for federal contractors and another for businesses with 100 or more employees.

In early November, a federal court blocked the mandate for large businesses, just two days after it was published. The mandate would have used the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to impose massive fines on noncompliant companies and individuals for failing to get the experimental shots.

By early December, all three of the Biden administration’s private sector jab mandates were stalled by federal judges.

The latest mandate to be blocked was halted December 7 by a federal judge who sided with South Carolina’s attorney general and Republican governor and stopped the Biden administration’s COVID-19 jab mandate for federal contractors, freezing the requirement nationwide and marking the third federal injection mandate to be blocked across all 50 states.

A shift in public policy toward the reversal of coercive jab mandates comes as many Americans remain concerned that the experimental drugs on the market have not been sufficiently studied for negative effects given their accelerated clinical trials. Many also harbor serious moral reservations about the use of cells from aborted babies in the development of the shots.

Still others simply consider the injections unnecessary given COVID-19’s high survivability among most groups, low risk of asymptomatic spread, and research indicating that post-infection natural immunity is either just as protective against reinfection or provides even greater protection.

Japan’s health ministry officially warns of myocarditis heart inflammation as a side-effect of Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines

The major U.S. media, including Fox News and the conservative blogosphere, are completely ignoring this news from Japan.  Google and DuckDuckGo searches reveal only little-known websites, many with an ideological bent, picking up the news — which means that few will see it and many will disbelieve it.  But NHK, the Japanese version of the BBC (full disclosure: where I long ago worked as an overseas news editor as well as on-air), has the story.  You can count on it being true.

Japan’s health ministry has listed inflammation of the heart muscle and of the outer lining of the heart in younger males as possible serious side effects of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID vaccines. (snip)

The ministry held a panel of expert on Saturday and proposed warning of the risk by printing “serious side effects” on the documents attached to the vaccines.

It will also require hospitals to report in detail incidents involving people who developed the symptoms within 28 days after being vaccinated, according to the law.

The plan was approved by the panel, and the ministry will notify municipalities.

The contrast with many other advanced countries, where the populace is being bullied, even required, to receive vaccines is stark.  And this is not some minor agency issuing the warning.  The official name of the health ministry is the Koseirodosho, in English, The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare.  It is headquartered in this skyscraper in the Kasumigaseki district in Tokyo, where most national government offices are located.

To my knowledge, this is the first official warning of the heart risk associated with COVID vaccines, and it comes from a highly advanced country with a reputable medical regulatory bureaucracy. CORRECTION: the CDC did issue a notice on November 12:

CDC and its partners are actively monitoring reports of myocarditis and pericarditis after COVID-19 vaccination. Active monitoring includes reviewing data and medical records and evaluating the relationship to COVID-19 vaccination. (snip)

  • Cases of myocarditis reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)external icon have occurred:
    • After mRNA COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), especially in male adolescents and young adults
    • More often after the second dose
    • Usually within a week of vaccination

But Japan’s health ministry has raised the level of  concern and is gathering data for a controlled study, leaving the CDC far behind. (hat tip: Douglas Herrz)

Julian Assange’s brother Gabriel Shipton joined ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight‘ on Monday as the WikiLeaks founder appears set to be extradited to the U.S. from the U.K..

The public has “been able to ignore this case for a while,” he said. “They’re making an example out of Julian.”

“The people who run our democracies now would like to rule them with impunity,” he also said. “They don’t want people to know what’s being done in their name. They want to keep secrets. They don’t want the public to be informed. They’re telling people: ‘If you tell the truth about our secrets about the security state, this is what’s going to happen to you. You’ll be locked in a prison for the rest of your life.'”
