From serving overseas to earning degrees,Veteran of the Afghanistan mission in third year of legal studies at USask.
By James Shewaga
“. . . It was a little difficult adjusting back to the real world, but I think everybody has to deal with that,” he (fought in Afghanistan, 2008) said. “One of the things that I did have to get used to after coming back was getting frustrated over people who would get so worked up over trivial things. Nothing exploded, nobody was killed or wounded, this isn’t a big deal. So, it took some time to not get frustrated by that kind of thing. And for me now, for the most part, I think I am able to handle stress pretty well, because I experienced someone trying to kill you.”Following his experience overseas, Mihalcheon was drawn to studying world history, earning his bachelor’s degree at Mount Royal University in Calgary prior to coming to Saskatoon to attend law school at USask. After defending his country, Mihalcheon’s motivation to serve others in the legal system came naturally for him. . . .”
I did not know that Canada was under threat from Afghanistan. Mihalcheon served in Afghanistan in 2008. The article does not make clear whether the words “After defending his country” were uttered by Mihalcheon or by the journalist.
At bottom of this posting: Who is James Shewaga, the journalist and Editor of On Campus News?

IN CONTEXT OF:
You really want to read or skim
- 2012-04-17 Lockheed Martin at U of S. “Collaboration Topics”.
- 2014-08-19 Request to Board of Governors, University of Saskatchewan: END the relationship with Lockheed Martin Corporation
- 2015-03-17, Updated 2017-12 The Minerva Initiative
And note from:
- the group of “U15” Canadian Research Universities, http://u15.ca/. Dalhousie and the U of Sask are members.
- You are dealing with two men (MacKinnon, Florizone), under whose leadership Lockheed Martin came to the U of S. One after the other the two men went to Dalhousie, where Lockheed Martin is also.
I will not take the time and space to detail progressions from University to U15 to Minerva, which is simultaneously a progression of the roll of the military into some of the U15 educational institutions.

IN CONTEXT OF:
2019-01-18 Organizing Resistance to Internet Censorship
- The discussion between North and Hedges explored the political context of the efforts to censor the Internet and abolish net neutrality, including the historic levels of social inequality. Both North and Hedges stressed the inseparable connection between war and the destruction of democratic rights, including free speech.
INSERT: The use of propaganda is, of course, another key element.
“From serving overseas to earning degrees,Veteran of the Afghanistan mission in third year of legal studies at USask.”
The centre-fold of On Campus News – – soldiers fighting in Afghanistan to defend Canada. Really?
Peace groups, churches, and others should be questioning the University. See the last paragraph below (Pilger talking).
Continuing,
- noted a significant decline in its own referrals from Google search results.
- This decline was not the accidental outcome of an algorithm update, North explained, but was an intentional effort to block access to websites that published anti-war and anti-capitalist content.
- “[C]ritics of capitalism, critics of imperialism, critics of the structure, such as myself,” Hedges said, “have been pushed to the margins, out of mainstream publications like the New York Times, where I worked for 15 years. Now, what we’re seeing in essence is that they no longer have a counter-argument to make that anybody is buying.
- “While the internet has brought about a revolution in people’s ability to educate themselves and others, the resulting democratic phenomena has shaken existing establishments to their core,” Assange said. “Google, Facebook and their Chinese equivalents, who are socially, logistically and financially integrated with existing elites, have moved to re-establish discourse control.
LAST PARAGRAPH
Pilger:
“[T]he national security state is devising more and more ways to not only suppress dissent, but guide internet users to think the way the empire wants us to think: The owner of the largest social media site has brazenly admitted as such with surprisingly mild, if any, outrage against it (present company excluded). And, hey, if propaganda isn’t working fast enough to have us marching in lockstep with the war machine, a very convenient, yet fake, ballistic missile warning to the people of Hawai’i might do the job?”

At first glance, it looks like he’s a Communications Consultant on U of S Staff. A “Search” throws up:

He’s not on staff?
Are others of the authors published in “On Campus News” the same? No – – John Shelling, https://teaching.usask.ca/about/staff/john-shelling.php, author of “Indigenous Achievement Week” on page 6, is a “Publications Officer” in something called “Teaching and Learning”.
There is on-line info on Shewaga. As a “top authority” on the U of S. https: // agilience. com /en/JamesShewaga. Kind of weird. I see on the inside of the front cover of On Campus News that James Shewaga is the Editor. I found a number to call: Yes, Shewaga is the Editor. Equal confusion, the person testing the internal to the University link – – takes you to the same thingre Shewaga, Marketing and Communications:
